HF Mobile Ops

So, I decided to do a very temp HF install in my Land Cruiser tray back truck. It only took about 20 minutes :-) By using Buddipole & Buddistick parts, the mobile antenna setup was breeze, one bolt with wingnut fitted the Buddistick vertical alloy base, fitted a spring between the first section and used a tapered stainless steel VHF vertical with small spring, above the Buddipole coil. Next, I just threw the power panel, FT-817ND, HL-50B 50 watt Amp, powered by a 7 amp gel cell battery, all on top of the dashboard!

Buddipole mount (I raided my Buddistick Vertical Kit, for this!) on front can either use the vehicle as a counterpoise, however when stationary, the Buddipole kite winder counterpoise can be deployed, by attachment to the provided screw terminal on the mount. IF the mount is insulated from the vehicle, by plastic washers etc when fitting, it means you can use a jumper from the terminal lug to vehicle body, for mobile operations, for stationary/portable, just drop the jumper wire and use the Buddipole kite winder counterpoise, I also have a 5 section shock corded whip for portable use only, its too long for mobile!

The kite winder counterpoise & 5 section shock-corded whip work very well. Pre-tuning the installation for both mobile & portable operation makes it easy to just change the coil plug to the relevant coil tap clip. By driving the amp only to about 20 watts, gives reasonable battery life.

Coil is rather rugged for mobile use, provided you use a flexible whip top section.

Antenna installation does not obstruct forward vision and works very well mobile and even better, when set up for stationary/portable use.
